So what to write about? I think I will talk about my new small vegetable garden that I just created a few weeks ago.
It all started with some Thai Snake Beans that I bought from a shop and tried planting the seeds to grow my own. They did ok, but it was not the right season for them so they weren't as prolific as they could have been. So what to do with the spot I had prepared?....well...expand it a little and make a vegetable garden and plant some edible things to eat right now until it is time to replant the beans again around November.
The idea is to grow a small amount of a few everyday things like lettuce, spring onions, pak choi, coriander (cilantro), some chillies I had started a couple of months ago and whatever else might come to mind. I use these veges quite regularly, so the idea of growing them instead of buying them from a supermarket all the time seems like a nice idea.
The garden needed some help.......so a bit of lime, some good old chicken manure and some compost helped it along nicely. A good wet-down and left overnight, I was ready to plant the next day.
I planted seeds from the following : Cos Lettuce, Buttercrunch Lettuce, Mignonette Lettuce, Spring Onions, Leeks and Pak Choi. I also cut off the last inch of the root end, with roots still attached, of some supermarket bought Spring Onions and planted them as well.
So the adventure has begun.....we shall see what happens in Chapter 2.
