Nasturtium Flower Fried Rice

One of my great pleasures in life is cooking. It helps me relax after a day of work.

I like to use things I grow and try new ideas with them. One of these ideas was to add some Nasturtium Flowers to a dish of fried rice. The nasturtium flowers have a kind of pepper like heat to them and I think the idea worked quite well. I was happy with the result.

A Few Garden Visitors

Just a few random photos of some visitors to the garden.

Chrysanthemums

In May the Chrysanthemums burst into flower for the first time. The plant is only small and the flowers were very little as well. Still looked good though.

Moon Cactus

I thought I would share some photos of my moon cactus in flower. I really like the look of these flowers. For those who don't know, the flowers come out at night and only have a short life.
It is also the home of Dragonfruit.

A Very Chilli Birthday

It was my birthday not long ago and I received some chilli plants as a gift.

One is called Black Pearl and the other is the hot, hot ,hot Habanero variety.

They have both been flowering and now are bearing fruit. I can't wait for them to ripen and feel the burn!!

The Tomato Bag Experiment

I have been trying to grow tomatoes and the pesky fruit flies have been going crazy over them and ruining as many as they can. So I decided to try an idea. I made some protective bags out of cloth kitchen wipes as the cost was far less than buying the commercial fruit fly bags.

The aim was to use something that spends it's life getting wet so that it would hold up in the rain and not fall apart after getting wet over and over.

They worked great at protecting my entire crop of tomatoes and lasted for the life of the tomato plant. The only trouble was they did not stand up to the sunlight very well and they became brittle and started to rip easily after all that time in the sun.

So for now it is back to the drawing board and next time I will try a different material.

Native Australian Lime and Blueberry shrub

About 6 months ago I bought a Native Australian Finger Lime and a Blueberry shrub.

The Blueberry is starting to flower now, so I am hoping for even a small amount of blueberry fruit just for the satisfaction of eating a few, even though the plant is still small.

Nice flowers too.

A Rather Unfortunate Fishing Experience

I bought a fishing lure quite a while ago and noticed it carried a promise of a rather uncomfortable fishing experience.

OUCH!!!!!

Mini Tomato Sandwich - Just For Fun

I was in the garden checking on my vegetables when I came across these two rather small examples of farm produce. A tiny tomato and a tiny chilli.

So what do you do with such a small tomato? Make the world's smallest tomato sandwich of course !!

YUM!!!!!!
